Students in Ramstein High School’s Show Choir and Concert Choir recently had the unique opportunity to record a music video featuring their rendition of the song “Flight.”

At the beginning of May, the choirs recorded the song in a stairwell at the school to capture natural reverb, with the assistance of the school’s IT specialist, Mr. Kruczek.

On May 16, after school, the students traveled to Michaelsburg castle ruin on the Remigiusberg in Kusel for the video shoot. The event was filmed by the school’s educational technologist, Mr. Wright, who also brought a drone to capture aerial footage. The students followed a storyboard and performed at least 10 different scenes during the filming.

The choir members lip-synced to their earlier recording, which was played from a speaker during filming, allowing them to sing along on location.

The music video features the song “Flight,” written by Craig Carnelia and arranged by Ryan Murphy.  The music video was created as a tribute to all senior graduating classes within the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).

“The video and recording process was a really cool experience that gave us all a taste of professional music recording,” said senior Reagan. “It taught me so much about what all goes into the finished project and I really enjoyed the experience. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have gotten to film and record such a special video and it really meant a lot to me finishing out my senior year. Thank you to Ms. K for all the hard work and support she’s given us!! Can’t wait to someday tell my kids I recorded a music video at a real castle.”

“The experience of getting to film ‘Flight’ has been like none other I’ve ever had,” said  Allison. “An amazing memory I will never forget. Running through the fields, and watching everyone smile and laugh, just having a good time.”

Another student Zoe called the project “such a fantasy experience, "adding it was “truly unforgettable.”
